Picture
Joe Thompson is an Atlanta native currently living in Merritt Island, Florida. His art reflects many years of experimentation and evolution. Being self taught gives Joe a fearlessness to explore new ideas with a sense of adventure and enthusiasm. " The knowledge is in the doing!  Books and lectures only give a person synthetic experience that does no good without application. Don't look for someone's permission. Go get your hands dirty." JLT
 At the present, Joe only uses recycled materials in his art. These materials are manipulated many different ways to achieve different effects. From the whimsical to the serious, no two are the same. Every piece is authentic and original. No molds! No prints! Joe's art is inspired by the objects he finds and his own colorful life experience. Joe sums up his art work by saying;
"I make things every day. Some days I really connect with that subconscious creator in me. Like waiting for a old friend to arrive, I give art a place to happen!" JLT Joe Thompson's ability to put objects together in interesting ways and the quality with which his sculptures are constructed, sets him apart from many other artists.

                                  Artist Statement

I try to convert my thoughts into sculpture. At least, the thoughts I feel are important. This process starts with the objects and materials I run across. The direction I take with each piece is influenced heavily by my interest in philosophy & human nature. So, these are the ingredients floating around in my sub-conscious when inspiration occurs. My sculptures are all "one of a kind" and can be very sculptural or more assemblage depending on the piece and my intention. Through the years, I have learned many techniques that few artists know. My favorite has been learning to literally carve steel. This process I discovered through experimentation and lends itself well to the figurative pieces I create.
           I Hope You Enjoy My Art!

    I would love to hear from you...
